The exhibition, curated by Johannes Ramharter (from Vienna), explores the influence of Mantegna’s work on the art of Albrecht Dürer, and vice versa.
We do not really know if Dürer came to Mantua during his travels through Italy, but we want to focus on explore the studies that the he did on ancient artwork, especially pertaining to human anatomy, to find the “ideal” formula of this subject.
Dürer’s engravings can show the long permanence of his influence on graphic arts and painting.
An example of this is the large 17th-century painting in Brescia, which shows pleasant references in its figurative elements of Dürer’s concept of Revelation.
There will also be a contemporary work by Anselm Kiefer on display, to show the different dialogues that crossed paths through the centuries in the compositions of Dürer.
There will also be information on the relationship with Leonardo da Vinci’s art.
