Chiesa di Santa Maria della Carità

Today, of the original all that is left is the bell tower - with its medieval architecture - and the architectural structure of the façade, which is raised compared to the street level and closed off by a piazza built on what was formerly a cemetery.
The walls of the church contain some of the grave stones saved during the construction work.
Inside, the Baroque layout and decorations date back to restoration work performed in 1752.
Today, Santa Maria della Carità belongs to the Diocese of Mantua and has numerous Baroque canvas paintings.
Among these, it is worth mentioning a series of eleven paintings by Giuseppe Bazzani, a painter from Mantua, one of the most important directors of the ancient Academy of Fine Arts of Mantua, who was baptised in this church in 1690.
