Palazzo Canossa
Palazzo Canossa
Description
Information
The Canossa family received the title of Marquises from thre Gonzagas, but they were originally from Verona.
The façade is embellished by stucco shapes containing images of landscapes and buildings.
The entrance is flanked by marble columns, which support the balcony.
Below these, one may find the representation of a dog, the family symbol.
Access to the noble floor is through a large Baroque stairway, decorated with statues of Hercules, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto, created by Pedrali.
The building was inhabited by the Canossa family until the middle of the Nineteenth century.
As of Fenruary 2016, it is undergoing restoration work.
