Tazio Nuvolari Museum
Tazio Nuvolari Museum
Description
Information
Between 1920 and 1950, Nuvolari (Castel d'Ario 1892 - Mantua 1953) competed in more than 350 motorcycle and car races, winning no less than 161 victories (91 absolute and 70 class victories), 2 European championship titles, 5 Italian championship titles, and 5 international speed records.
This precious museum facility is located in the ex Carmelino church, located along the "Percorso del Principe" - the route connecting Palazzo Ducale to Palazzo Te - the two most important monuments in the city.
It collects trophies, plaques and cups won by the "Mantovano volante" [flying man from Mantua], as well as an extensive collection of gold medals, testimonies of a sporting career and a life that has become a legend.
The champion's personal effects have a significant impact on the visitor: helmets, gloves, goggles, overalls, and his ever-present yellow shirt.
Also on who are posters, signed letters, certificates, honours and documents.
These include the telegram sent by Gabriele D'Annunzio after his victory in the Targa Florio of 1932, accompanied by a reproduction of the famous golden turtle, with the inscription "To the fastest man, the slowest animal".
Original film footage projected on a large screen, and an exhibition of precious scale models make it possible to feel the thrill of motor racing in the first half of the Twentieth century.
